Does anyone know of any good PHP based news posting software that doesn't use SQL?

It would be a pain to use as you'd probably have to write/read from a file. You can use the PHP File operations, but I would recommend against doing something like that completely. If you were looking for structure, I'd recommend XML. I'm sure there is some PHP library available to make XML operations easy. I would just recommend looking for some MySQL hosting though as it's just so easy to use and is extremely fast.

I have SQL, but I just don't want to use it for the sake of preserving my sanity.

as for the file thing... does anyone use it? Is there a way to configure postnuke to do it or something? I can use XML. The only thing I care about is being able to move it easily from one PHP server to another. SQL adds another variable which means more work migrating.

For the news, if you want to avoid placing all news into a single file I suggest placing them all in a single directory and making each file in the directory a single post. The filename could be the timestamp of the post. Inside the file you could would put in the HTML fragment of the post and to display the file your news.php would scan the directory of news postings for either a specific post or say, the 10 most recent and then include() them.

I'd prefer this method since deleting/modifying a post is as simple as deleting/modifying the post file and you avoid flock().

but is there something that does this already? If there isn't then I'm just going to go with setting up sql >_<

If you use phpmyadmin setting up and using SQL is very easy (after the initial install of MySQL and phpmyadmin). Also, migrating is insanely easy by just exporting a database dump, and then importing it again. No bother.

Most hosts will have phpmyadmin installed already.
