I'm on a laptop because my MoBo is fried and I just realized... laptops don't have all the characters!!! I forget what the character is called but it is the one used for the NOT function in bitwise operations... can someone just type it in so I can copy and paste it??? and maybe tell me why laptop keyboards have to be soo gay?

The tilde character (~) is located to the left of (1), as the shift-modified variant of the backtick (`). At least on my laptop.

I've seen some laptops that shift the tilde key around, although I dont think I've seen one that doesn't have one altogether, but I guess it's not ouside the realms of possibility.

Seth: If it comes up again, use charmap to copy it to the clipboard.

All you need to do now is copy the tilde from oluseyi's post in put it in a text file and save it. Then you will have it forever.:)

Try looking beside the right shift or right control key, or up beside backspace. Some laptop manufactors are sneaky.

Also, under Windows, try holding ALT and typing 0126 with numlock on.

Next time you need a character not (easily) typable on your keyboard, you should use the Character Map, available under "Start | Accessories" in most windows configurations, and also avalable as "Start | Run | charmap.exe". It might not be installed, but I'm fairly certain it is installed by default on Win2000 and WinXP
