Hey all! I was just going over an idea in my head for an RPG maker that I''d like to design (SNES type RPG), and I came to the realization that just about everything I have planned for it, I need a scripting language. Almost every element of the design calls for a scripting language, but that is the one thing I don''t know how to design/make. If it was just an RPG, I could hard code everything into the game (bad idea in itself), but I want this to be something which is very easy to modify. So I went looking on the internet for a tutorial or article or something on scripting languages in games and found next to nothing (there is a start of a scripting language feature here on GD, but the first article just isn''t enough to get me started). So does anyone know where I could find a decent explanation or tutorial on making a scripting language for an RPG? --Buzzy

Flipcode ran a series on creating your own scripting engine. I don''t think it''s so hot, but it''s the best I''ve found online.

Here''s the starting point:
http://www.flipcode.com/tutorials/tut_scr01.shtml

At the very least it''ll get you enough of a head start that you can start asking specific questions.

Already tried a search ?
A thread named ''Scripting languages'' appears weekly on this board

There was this thread
Scripting
which had a very nice listing of my favorite scripting languages.

As always, you''ll find everything you need on my backflip page, www.backflip.com/members/Cygon, from compiler generators (systems for creating a scripting language with bytecode compiler) the complete languages ready for embedding
