Libraries for LINUX?

Original Post
Gents, We have a game currently released for Windows, and we would like to do a port to LINUX. I think we have the basic graphics handled, but we need to replace our RAD libraries, specifically Miles Sound System and Smacker. Does anyone have any recommendations on this? Also, what is the best installation program for LINUX? We are currenty using Setup Factory from Indigo Rose under Windows. Thanks,
Can't help on the libs question, but for installs, linux is a free-for-all. However, for cross-platform projects, you might check into BitRock Installer which works on linux and windows both. It's cheap for commercial projects and free for bona fide open source projects.
Yes, RAD makes a version of both Miles and Bink for Linux, so I think we're in business. They say they have only used redhat 9 GCC 3.0. If we made this our development environment, would we end up with a version of the game that most Linux users could install and play?
Also, I wish I was more of a Linux geek (working on it), but I'm afraid I don't really understand what some of you are saying about the various Linux installers. Are these similar to Wise, Setup Factory, etc.? Or are they more like just a big zip file?
Thanks for all of the help!

if you decide to package it as a .tgz, do us all a favor and DON'T build it from the root of the drive. I don't want a game installing crap everywhere from /usr to /usr/local to /usr/lib .... I want to put it where I want it, unzip it, and have game/lib, game/bin, etc.... so I know where it all lives when I want to trash it.
