Trackbacks are a feature of many blogs. Suppose Alice writes an article on C# generics. If Bob writes another article in his own journal after reading Alice's article, or if Bob just wants to let people know about Alice's article, he can use a trackback. This is different from Bob simply linking to Alice's article, because now Alice knows that Bob finds her article interesting. You can read more here.
