Hi all, recently I have found the three Knuth's books at library, so I'm wondering if it's the case to buy all three together, becouse I can have these for about ~ 130€, and I save about ~45€ buying them together instead of singly... Does someone have these books ? Thanks, [Edited by - Elementer on May 12, 2005 2:27:45 PM]

Obviously its a huge risk buying a set of books. I don't have them but are they a progressive series, in difficulty? If so, u might find that just buying the hardest book ist the best thing.

isn't there a art of computer programming book based on DrScheme/Scheme?
Beginner in Game Development?  Read here. And read here.

I have that set. I'll say that while they're an excellent set of books, the cost of buying the set isn't very short of buying one at a time.

Are you talking about the updates (the risk) ? Yes, you'r right, but the books I found are last version, and I can open them at library, so I can take a look..., I don't buy them closed package >;)
It's the same thing when you want to buy a new computer, you ask yourself "Wait..., pentium 2 ? Some month next there's the pentium 3" and go on, and you never buy a new computer... >8P

Do you think that is a good idea buying them singly ? And wait for possible book update ? I save a lot of money with tigether, the update usually are grammar error or similiar or are new algorithm inserted on the books ?

Buy all three. Dr Knuth updated last in 1998, I believe, and he has been working on book four. Another update is not likely to come soon.

That's How to Design Programs.

If your library has the books then go read them and find out for yourself if they would make a good desk reference (hint: yes).

Unless there is a language issue since library is close to libreria (bookshop) even though it means biblioteca.

I wouldn't expect many updates to this series, aside from newer volumes that Dr. Knuth has planned[1]. Go ahead and buy them.

[1] Anyone know if these later books have been published at all?

Well, he's not dead yet, so I except them to come out eventually....
