Just curious, how many of ya have/had more problems getting the money to pay for college, than doing well in the courses you enrolled?

I can't cope with the course, so spend more time working than going out and thus have no problems paying my way through [grin]

I went on the middle class white man's scholarship program, AKA the Army National Guard. They paid for my schooling, and then some. The only drawback to that is you might have to go to Iraq or Afghanistan for a year, and possibly getting your ass shot off, but if you're in college, and don't have any expenses while you're deployed you can come back with a pretty nice stash of cash to finish school with.(When my little brother got back from Iraq, he had 30,000 in the bank). There are some other drawbacks, like short deployments in the middle of a semester, but most of my teachers were able to work something out with me when that happened.

That's the main problem with me, I can't do neither. Since I'm a foreign student, I'm not allowed to work off campus, I'm not eligible for financial aid, but I do get to pay for everyone else's, and I pay out of state tuition, no matter if my family claims me as dependent and pay taxes.[/vent]

I enrolled in a local college, because otherwise I'd have to pay a lot more. I still can't afford college because I have no time to work because I'm overloading in the amount of courses I am taking.

I think the white man's middle class method is living off your parents while going to college. If I were poorer, I'd take out a loan. College is worth taking a loan. Plus there are deferrable loans, so the interest doesn't build until I get finished.

In new zealand, most university students get a student loan / student allowance to pay their fees. With both it's easy to stay at uni without working. I personally don't qualify for a student allowance as my parents own their own buisiness and therefore are moderatly well off. (the allowance is $150 / week paid by the government)

I'm starting my 4th year of university now, and my loan is $8,000 NZ (that would be around $5000 US$). That covered all my fees. I've managed to live off around $100nz / week otherwise. Although realistically most students wouldn't manage on that amount. It would often barly pay rent.

So it's not really much of a problem for me.
