Trojan question

Hi all, again... I just got back and I noticed that norton antivirus found something on my computer:

Scan type:  Realtime Protection Scan
Event:  Virus Found!
Virus name: Trojan.StartPage
File:  C:\System Volume Information\_restore{B37680B2-BA0A-4E5D-BF30-83E44C588624}\RP598\A0142966.exe
Location:  Quarantine
Computer:  
User:  SYSTEM
Action taken:  Quarantine succeeded : Access denied
Date found: Monday, January 17, 2005  8:54:18 PM

All I can ask is what might cause something like this, this is the second time it has found something in that directory (although it may have a different key)... and I dont like viruses on my computer, I consider my computer to be clean and it has found 2 viruses in the last 2 days.. and I have only downloaded one game, which i read the licence (geekish, i know) and i doubt it has a virus. Any info would be helpful, cause I dont know what i'm doign to get this. Thanks all ~zix~

I had similar problems (but not the same thing) even tho I don't download stuff from untrusted places, and I am relatively security aware. It turned out that the nice folks from MS have a lot of security holes in IE, which were exploited by various web sites. So I switched to FF, and no more problems, at least for the time being.

Raduprv: ya, i suppose so... I like IE because it is powerful, have to admit that, but it's also a big security threat. I may switch to firefox, but I would like them to get out a few bugs first, then I probably will.

That thing is a trojan horse.
Anyway, I have FF version 1.0 (got it a few days ago) and there are no bugs that I can find. What bugs bother you?

It has a few DHTML problems, such as marqee and glow.. but it bugs me... I guess I'll force myself to download it.

"Horse, full of Greeks.".. I read that as 'geeks' as first. I just finished studying Trojans in school, the Trojan war to be exact. I've had enough of them.

When I read the topic, I was thinking it was a question on Trojan condoms.
I don't like the extended pleasure [headshake] because it puts your piece to sleep.

sadly (or perhaps not so sadly..) I too had this very same thought when I read the thread title.
