i would like to use the qsplat method (from stanford university). http://graphics.stanford.edu/software/qsplat/ now i use VBO but when 3D object will be of more then 3, 4 millions points, it will be too slow so qsplat sems to be a good solution. someone has already tried to implement it? i didn't reach to understand exactly how they files (.qs format) are done. do you think it's a good idea to pass from vbo to qsplat? any other better method? thx

I don't think qsplat is quite what you're expecting. It's still going to take just as long to draw the final object. qsplat is just appears to be a method of progressively loading and drawing the object, where the longer you look at it the finner the detail becomes as it draws more and more detail. You could come up with your own method of doing this (which in no way would be easy) or check out the links on the site you linked. qsplat is quite specific, as no game or even most CAD projects will get nearly that high in polygon count. Therefore, I doubt anyone here has had a need to do something quite like this before.

thx for your response

one good point of qsplat is that you can rotate... the object in real time (even with millions of points) because only a small part is used if needed and the precision comes only when no movements

and the fact of using point instead of triangles? better results? faster results? but graphic card also optimized for this?
