I'm currenlty in the creating the map tiles stage of for my game. However, before I create any more, I noticed that the 16x16 textures seemed very small, and was wondering if I should increase the size.

We ran into this problem several times, currently we go for 32x32 normal, however in the future I may go up as high as 64x64.

Really it all comes down to a matter of choice, at 1200X1024, yah 16x16 is miniscule, but if you are running on a console, hehe nes, or a lower resolution it might make more sense. It really depends on your target hardware.

Also you can use Mipmaps, thought I have yet to implement them, they would add more scaling benifits, so they say. Probably some nice tutorials around gamedev, and other sites.
