C# vs C++

Original Post
Hi people, I would just like a quick vote plus comments on the issues of what language to use. I am a C++ programmer and have been for some time; however since using Direct X I have done all my work in C#. I now greatly prefer to program in c# but on reflection and in all honestly c# is a slow bulky over kill language that I think goes against what “C” is all about. So I am now debating rewriting all I have done in c++, this would give me the advantage of speed and my old favourite “inline assembler”. But before I get into this and waste all my time rewriting I would like to know what other people think about this. And how other people have solved the problems I face while using c#. So Vote C++ or C# and remember this is not about popularity, it is about the best tool for the job. Thanks
DrGUI, have you ever used c++ tho?
and if so do you know any ASM?

Hay people seems your all reading this but know one wants to vote!
let your voice be herd, all you have to say is c++ or c#! its not as if i am asking a lot lol

It's a subjective question. I mean, you included the phrase "going against what 'C' is all about"! Is this about programming and solving problems efficiently or is it about dogmatic adherence to your perceived notion of what one approach is all about?
In short, it's a bad question. Next?
If you're going to use direct X anyway c# would be the way to go, unless you want to sacrifice productivity for a slight speed gain.
If you ever want X-Platform compatability, go for c++, so later you can add OpenGL and compile it under the system of your choice.

Raloth & acid2 Seems you have the same idea, fast development. And I would have to agree it sure is a lot simpler to develop on c# than c++, and the new direct x 9 fits very well with it all.
But in the back of my mind I cant help but wonder how much processing power is being wasted on the niceties of .Net. and I am not being picky when I say we all know games need as much power as we can give them.

Oluseyi, has anyone ever told you your a nob! This is a forum for discussing Direct X development. IE to get the best form Direct X by discussing any and all problems faced while developing within it.
If you don’t want to comment then don’t. The shear fact that you have commented with a totally worthless and less than intelligent response tells me your just some attention seeking twat.

clayasaurus do you know that the gain is slight? i herd that some things. and i stess only some things can be upto 80% faster in c++.
Just out of curiousity, is what you're doing right now running slow at all in C#? I'm just asking because I see a lot of people wasting energy with lower level languages for things that aren't running slow in the first place. The processor in my microwave could probably run a lot of the stuff that people are trying to optimize.

If you can't make the decision between C++ and C# on your own, based on your own project needs and competence, then don't talk to me about "getting the most out of DirectX," because every indicator is that you lack the skills to push DirectX in the least.
aaroncox1234, you have a very good point, and the short answer is no. I am writing it in c# and will continue to do so for now. I am just debating and hens this post to decide if I should rewrite it in c++.
The frame rate is fast in c# and in truth I believe it would probably be the same in c++ since it would be suing the same libraries etc. However it’s the stuff in the background that concerns me. All the math and stuff I do. I.e. collisions, visual detection and model logic.

Oluseyi You really are a self diluted asshole aren’t you, If mister high and mighty is so bother by this post then don’t read it.
Pim sounds like you know what I mean, I don’t suppose you have used Direct X in c++, As I have said I have only done Direct X in c#. and everything else in C++.
I am kind of hoping I would find someone who had done a complete 3D project in both c++ and c#.

owl, I agree.
