If you specifically want to make isometric games, you might wanna throw this question to the folks over in Isometric Land on this very website [smile]. They're bound to know whats what.

One of the premier press game development books is on Isometric Game Programming - thought it was pretty good myself. I'll see if I can dig it out and find its title/isbn for you.

The Forum FAQ lists sites that will help you and also contains lots of other valuable info. The FAQ in the Iso Forum probably had lots of good stuff in it too.

If you are really intrested in this subject, take a look at Isometric Game Programming With Directx 7.0. Low price at time of post was $7. I own that book and I think it would be of good use to you for learning to do what you are describing. Books are really the best references to ISO dev right now, there is a lack of articles on the net pertaining to them. There used to be this great site that had ast least 20 tutorials oging over how to make a full RTS, but I can no longer find it. Hope this helps. Good luck!

The book Drew recommends in the above snippet is the one I was trying to think of when I said:

Provided you've got the budget for books and don't mind a fair bit of reading then you'd be heading in the right direction to pick up said book [smile].
