It's hard to take you seriously with such a bizarre and uninformative post. Sneftel found the logical fallacy in your question right off the bat, and without some sort of frame of reference, we're totally in the dark here. Would I pay $140 for a spectacular, ground-breaking, cutting-edge video game? That depends on whether I have $140 to blow. It's a video game, after all. A luxury item. I'd rather have two weeks' worth of groceries, or a third of a month's rent.
That said, we've seen some neat innovations on these boards lately. Some have had a lot of potential, like that per-pixel control interface thing. Others, like "letting" a player micromanage the dietary supplements and fashion of each individual soldier in an RTS, have had less appeal.
Judging by the style of your post and your apparent attitude, I suspect that you are among the countless young gamers that have set themselves the task of producing "teh best gaem evar". Your "pimp daddy of FPS's" seems to derive it's mojo from a single original aspect, this "unique feature" you are so smug about. You say specialized hardware isn't needed to play, but if the game is dependent upon upon this special property for its appeal, then yes, you will need every player to use the supplementary hardware.
You're in trouble. You're too coy to reveal your secret, so I'll answer your question on its face: No way. I'm not going to shell out an extra $100 for a game that can't be enjoyed without a gimmicky doo-dad.
However, I'll admit that you've piqued my interest regarding the doo-dad itself. I'm going to try to guess what it is. You don't have to tell me, just let me know if it's on this list:
3D Virtual Reality Helmet/Goggles
Glove/Suit that uses body movements as inputs
Something that vibrates
A machine that calls you on the telephone with game hints
A hand-held display/control interface (Game Boy Advance)
A mild electric shock when you get hurt in-game
A super-duper MMO game community with a little teleconferencing machine right there next to your computer.
Robotic Operating Buddy
Am I close?
Would you buy me...er...it
hohum. I would buy it if it was worth it, which depends on what it would be obviously ;)
Oh please tell me what it is! please!
It's you? You're selling yourself with the game!

I'd say in reality it heavily depends on the TYPE of hardware were talking about here. Nintendo tried to push out several hardware idea's, that while good, totally bombed eventually. I think people would pay for it, but the price would definitly drive away a portion of the market. But really, people spend the equivalent of that much and even more on Everquest and its expansions in the long run.
Depending on how 'vital' this new hardware is, you may want to consider the possibility of not lumping it with the game, and merely post on the box "Best Played With" to promote the specific hardware your going for to try and attract the stingy. If the games good enough without it, it may encourage them to go out and acquire the neccessary hardware separately.

Iron chef carnage, the electrical shock is already made and has been adapted to games. Check out these mad xbox controllers at xbox - scence...http://www.g4tv.com/screensavers/features/44543/Dark_Tip_Build_an_Xshok_Controller.html
It would depend on what it was. Like, I could see getting really psyched about a Mind Reading Headset, but it would really have to be compatable with other games. Like, if you are going for a Power Glove thing, for example, make sure it is compatible with Mouse/Keyboard input. Another thing... How are you going to develop this thing? It would also help if you told us what it is...

Where can I buy an IBVA Headset? I can't find anywhere on that site, or even an e-mail address?
In a word - no. It's highly unlikely at least. If there were plenty of details available, and I knew it would be worth it, then maybe. At the present time however, I see no reason why such a thing would be neccesary, as I can get the latest and greatest games from other companies without paying your excessive price for a piece of 'non-required' hardware.
Realistically, you cannot get a good response to this without providing appropriate details.
My bet is on this mystery piece of hardware being a VR headset (not an original idea btw).

You should understand that we don't generally steal idea's here. I don't quite get why you think a headset that reads brainwaves is "just crazy" either. Seems rather closed minded to me considering your asking us to go on blind faith about your idea. >.>
You know i think your right stevenmarky, i've checked their website and there's no mailing/e-mail address whatsoever. After abit of digging on the Net though, i've managed to dig up their e-mail and address so you can contact them. Not sure if its still valid information or not.
