Hey guys, It appears as though I got a free ride to Flashforward this year. Is anyone going? It's in San Francisco this year. For anyone who doesn't know what it is, it's a Flash conference. Just curious :). I've never been out to that coast, so if there's anything I should go see while I'm there, tell me. I'd offer to visit some GDNetters in the area, but who wants to see me anyway? :P.

There is a LOT to see, but it kind of depends on what your interests are. Sight seeing, exhibits and such, general touristy stuff... It also depends on how much time you have, if you have a car, that kind of thing. What would you like to get out of the trip?

I'm going for 4 days in April. Many things interest me. I just need some suggestions :)

Well, some of the touristy things to do would include:

A ride in a cable car: Not a must, but you can say you have, and it's a pretty cheap thing to do. Take one to Fisherman's Wharf.

Fisherman's Wharf: This is a real tourist spot with lots of souvenir stores. Lot's of seafood resturants, and you can check out the sea lions. It can be kind of a rip off to do much shopping here though, but there are a few cool things to see around the area. The ferrys to Alcatraz are down this way.

Alcatraz: You know, the prison. It's a cool thing to see if you like that sort of thing, and it's an excuse to take a ride on a ferry and get a look around if the day is nice. Last I heard there was a waiting list, so book this well before you go if you want to see it. Sometimes there are "standby" spots, but don't count on it.

Golden Gate Park: Huge place. You could spend a lot of time here if you wanted to see everything. Right next to each other in there is the California Academy of Sciences, the M.H. de Young Memorial Museum, the Asian Art Museum, and the Japanese Tea Gardens. Those are all great, with everything from natural history to a huge aquarium/reptile section to S.F. history to art; and you could easily spend a day in the park going through just those. On sundays the streets through the park are closed off from 5am-5pm and you can rent rollerblades (or walk) all through the area. Parking in there (well anywhere in the city really) can be tough.

Golden Gate Bridge: You can say you drove over it! Actually, right next to Fort Mason there is a big free parking lot that you can park at, and walk along the beach (Chrissy Field) very close to the bridge. It's free! On nice days there are windsurfers about.

Chinatown: A cool place to walk through (good luck finding parking, but cabs are all over), you can get a fairly cheap meal here and browse some shops full of imported cra....goods. Cooked ducks hanging in the windows and the whole nine yards.

There is a lot more to suggest, but that's a start. If you have a car Muir Woods is a little under an hour from downtown. Further north you can head to Napa/Sonoma Valley Wine Country.

If anything else interests you I would be happy to mention more things to do in the area.
