uh well your looking for the wrong subject. Modeling a room is so simple. I mean, take a cube, theres ur room. What your looking for is basic modeling, go to

Don't know of any free sites, but Alias does sale a pack for learning purposes that has ~7 hours of video tutorials, and includes Maya Personal Learning Edition. I just ordered mine so I can't say if it's useful. I got mine, including shipping, for right at $31, so it's not a bad investment IMO. I assume that the tutorials on the DVD's will give you a good foundation with which to build from.
