2D mapping Coordinates
I have a movie file (from a TV show) where we want to add an object. For example, in the show there's a table and we want to add a vase of flowers in that spot. IS there a way to run the file through a piece of software and generate multiple coordinates for that area on the table? Sorry if this is the wrong place to ask. I've seen a lot on rendering 3D coordinates but nothing for television type 2D. I'm a beginner. Any direction would be greatly appreciated. Thomas

u can do this sort of thing in 3d studio max.. requires a fair amount of training though.. you apply the video as a texture to a box or have it in the background of the viewport and basically create models infront of the video in 3d.. its as complicated as it sounds.. you could also export the frames as still pictures and edit over them in photoshop frame by frame... and then re-merge them in adobe premiere
both options require attention to lighting in the background video so that the new objects dont look out of place...
dont know anything that does this automatically.. ? ...for say a table i would just animate it for the main position/rotation changes and keyframe them...
hope i helped ya... ?

thank you for the quick reply. Taking each frame and applying a coordinate is rough work. Have multiple areas to do. Could work though
I'm not looking to do the actual placement. JUST get the coordinates. Obviously....if the time comes that the coordinates can be applied, they would have to apply to some type of industry standard, 3D max or other.
if you have ideas on how to get these coordinates (numbers) get in touch with me at tmngroup@yahoo.com. I have work.
Thanks
Tom

i think a better explanation of what you are trying to do would help, if possible...
u said u wanted to add objects, but then later say u just want the co-ordinates
do u want the individual co-ordinates of each corner?.. the average 3d co-ordinates of each object?...
i know from prior knowledge you can add in objects using the previous posted methods... its nearly more complicated trying to just get the co-ordinates as if you make the 3d models and composite them it does the work for you..you can judge visually..and each object will have its co-ordinates generated by max
you have said that graphing each frame aint an option
"compositing videos using 3d software" is what u want to research if adding the vase is your eventual goal!...
there may be other options but getting co-ordinates for the sake of it is a very specialised subject... almost crimescene like (trajectories etcetera) ... there may be options out there but i dont know what u would search for?...

I'm trying to do 100% exactly what PatchMaker does. (http://www.patchmaker.net/enu/) Add a mask and insert an object in the masked area. The length of the video clip would be anywhere from 2-30 seconds. Patchmaker demo worked good. It renders the entire scene.
Are there similar/better products than patchmaker?
Are there professionals available that work with this product? I would be interested in speaking to them for a long term project.
Thanks for your time on this. You pointed me in the right direction and I found the perfect fit. Now if I can find a pro that can create the inserted image and render the video I'm good to go.
