my teacher (totally unrelated to computer science) has a computer. He said it crashed this summer, he had a lot of links that he wanted to keep and they all got wiped out. Then he reloaded windows, i was wondering if there was anyway to get back the favorites since he reloaded windows. Well hope someone can help.

The only possible way now (unless he formatted the hard drive) is to do a search of dead files on the drive, and hope it hasn''t been overwritten by Windows or something else. I think Norton has a utility for this.

i may sound like a toal retard here(because i don''t know this for sure...i have never used it), but i thought it was called Norton Ghost. I know for a fact that this can retrieve files bit by bit, but only if nothing has been written over it...
hope it helps

Actually, in theory, even when a file is erased (even multiple times), it can still be retrieved, if you know how (I don''t, however). I don''t know exactly how this is possible, but it is...

When you delete a file, you don't delete the actual data. You just delete the "pointer" to the file. A utility that can retrieve deleted files just looks for the unused data. This is true for Windows (don't know about other, more secure operating systems ).
