Programmer Stereotypes...

Original Post
Admit it, we all have stereotypes in our minds about programmers who write code in certain languages. This is your chance to share the ridiculous ways you stereotype programmers. Here's what I think: When confronted by a problem, a Java developer's solution will always start with "Create a class..." A C programmer will gladly write unportable, obscure, and unmaintainable code if it lets them save a cpu cycle or even one bit of memory. If you are a graphics programmer, you have participated in at least one "Directx vs OpenGL" flamewar. If you only code in one language and only speak one language, you are probably a C++ programmer in the United States. Go ahead, tell us what you really think...

I really think that i code in more than one language and can babel fish anything i need :)
And I am a C++ programmer :)
Yeah, these are stereotypes, so they are things that are probably false most of the time but that we think anyway.
A Linux System Adminstrator's job duties always include "Post on Slashdot."
Scheme programmers only exist in 300-level college courses.
Assembly programmers are secretly plotting against their OOP overlords, and have a secret handshake they use to greet each other.

what about the basic programmer? Eating his spaghetti code for breakfast? writing infinite goto loops all the time? struggling to understand what a variable is? Proud to be one >:-|

I think most stereotypes are heavily soaked in truth, so that are in fact the antipodal of false.

So you would say that the stereotypical stereotype is heavily soaked in truth? Interesting. How do you explain this:
If you ever programmed BASIC, the first time you saw a C++ program you asked where the line numbers were.
Anyone who has ever programmed Fortran, owns or knows where to find an entire box of used punch cards.
All Lisp programmers have beards.
The BASIC programmer is always younger than 12, as everyone knows, nobody programs in BASIC after hitting puberty.
The programmer who brags their code is portable and will run on every platform, will always have platform specific problems.
Perl coders are always zealots, and will fight to no end.
Every Python programmer who writes a book, has previously programmed in Perl.
Programmers only program and are unable to do anything else, so their comments and opinions towards sports, girls, and other leisure activities are invalid.
Programmers double as medical professionals.
One programmer can never change a lightbulb on their own.

Most BlitzBasic(or DB) programmers will eventually ask "Where can I buy C++?".
[lol]

Of course not, that's a hardware problem.

I was basing this more on linux forums and especially what happened with slackware(why'd he ask the programmers first?). Every forum I've gone to with a programming focus has these I think I'm diseased, I have these symptoms...
