Im going to at startup check all the directx caps for stuff that is needed by my program to make sure that the program dosn't stop/slow down during execution due to lack of hardware support. But then it hit me, how do i know what i need to check for? Is there some way to fingerprint the application's needs? Or do you have to manualy go trough the code and write everything down? I may sound lazy but that could quickly turn into a maintainance nightmare when routines change and the list have to be kept in sync. Is there nothing like: DXDumpCapsUsedToFile(char*); or soemthing? :-D Or does anyone have any other solution? Thanks in advance.

You gotta do that manually, but i don't think you will get to check to many things since the most important onces are:

Do the card support:
*Shaders
*Blending?

And some more, i'm to new to be able to tell you everything but i hope that helped at least abit.
