The title should have read: A penny off every McDonald's hamburger goes to the IRA. Well, since I discovered this, I'm not buying any McDonalds, I'm not supporting paramilitary organisations.

It''s kind of odd how people dont like how the people they oppress react when they are oppressing them. Same thing is happening with Isreal/Palestine...when will people learn? *sigh*

In a move to keep up Burger King has announced an alliance with the PLO. Look for Yasser Arafat''s face on the side of a cup soon.

From what I''ve read it was a mix-up because IRA is some sort of tax plan in the US. It''s Individual Retirement Account or something. It''s on McDonald''s website.

Maybe furby was just kidding. I hope

They''re not being oppressed. They have their own government and own laws. If they had full independance they''d kill each other off. There are a LOT of extremists in Ireland. No offence to Irish people I know most aren''t terrorists.

I feel sorry for myself whenever all the food places are closed, I have missed dinner, and I am starving... Only Maccas is open... Anyway, I think it goes without saying... I go hungry

Oh, for feck sake let''s not start about Northern Ireland. I beg you.
I have been living here next to Derry for the last three years, and maybe it''s only because I am leaving in Ireland, not N.Ireland, but I havent seen all that much of tension in here. Especially after Omagh bombing, it had quite an effect on the people, apparently. Very similar to the reaction of spanish against the ETA. Basically everybody is pissed off against the terrorists, and everybody agree that all this shite should stop. But of course, everybody keeps trying to put the blame on someone... and that''s where all the trouble is really coming from.

firahs/f1r4h5 : comparing N.Ireland troubles with Israel troubles is slightly wrong, especially IMHO because England colonized N.Ireland, while Israel was recreated artifically, for some strange reason. Though in both cases, you can say that the main bad guys are basically the governments rather than the individuals.

But ... mmm, all this is highly flammable material, I guess.

not youpla :-P

The Irish are not being opressed. They have their own state. Ireland consists of all the people who want to be Irish, and Northern Ireland consists of all the people who want to be British. The problem is, the IRA wants Northern Ireland to become part of the Republic of Ireland. The Northern Irish do not want this. So if anyone is being opressed, it is the Northern Irish Protestants. If there are any IRA sympathisers here, will they please leave. I am half Northern Irish and have strong views on this issue. Don''t argue please.
The Irish have their own laws, government, currency and everything else. They are an entirely separate country from the United Kingdom.

Could those who know nothing of the geography and history of Northern Ireland refrain from posting. Thankyou.

Get a godamned clue...

IRA means something like "Inland Revenue Account" (American equiv. of National Insurance). It has nothing to do with with an Irish terrorist group which my great-grand uncle may or may not have started....
