Hi Ya'll i was wondering what makes a good present for a flat warming? i know the person reasonably well, but not like a uber-best-mate or anything.. i was thinking a 12-pack of beers or something like that (its a female btw) is that good? i'm a bit broke ATM because i just bought an $800 cellphone.. so cheaper >= better. ah, i had the same problem a while back, couple of lasses I know invited me to their house warming on a saturday, I said yes, they then didnt tell me where it was so I ended up going down the pub with my mates, hehe.. by all accounts it seems like that was the better plan [grin]

There's nothing flatter or warmer than English beer, so it's fitting.

Was that $800 USD? You sir got ripped off! Can't you buy things off the internet over there? Even with shipping you could have easily saved $400!

I thought this thread was about some bizarre variant of global warming that was occurring. Damn you crazy UKers and your hijacking of a perfectly good word like "flat".

For 800 dollars I could buy a really good hooker. Your priorities are really odd. Heck, the hooker would probably be carrying a cell phone.

"flat" is british for apartment. "Mate" is british for friend. "Present" is british for hooker.

Nothing's better than one of these:

"British"? British isn't a language, last time I checked. [wink] "English", maybe, or if you want to be more specific "English English as in the English the English (in England) speak".

British is too a language. It takes a dictionary to decipher if you're not British.

Peter: What the hell is he talking about?
Englishman: Oh, it's Cricket. Marvelous game, really. You see, the bowler hurls the ball toward the batter who tries to play away a fine leg. He endeavors to score by dashing between the creases, provided the wicket keeper hasn't whipped his bails off, of course.
Peter: Anybody get that?
Cleveland: The only British idiom I know is that "fag" means "cigarette."
Peter: Well, someone tell this "cigarette" to shut up.

$800 NZD, and thats the stock price around these parts
it equates to about $550 USD, which is ok.

in NZ, if we import stuff, its quite expensive:
say i pay $285USD for the phone, thats $385NZD, then we have to add
GST (general sales tax, which i'd get slapped with by customs) @ 12.5%
and shipping for fragile electronics would be around $100NZD

which equates to around $530NZD and then i need to worry about warranty returns.

also, i should mention we use some interesting standards here, all cellphones are customised to their network, so foreign phones do work but the network refuses to provide support for them :-/ go figure.
