Not sure if everyone knows this, but I heard this story on npr the other day and laughed my ass off. I'm sure people have heard about the ten commandment displays in various courthouses and the conflict over whether to keep or remove them. Turns out, the displays in the Texas statehouse in Austin and many identical displays across the nation were actually installed as publicity stunts to promote the movie "The Ten Commandments" They are replicas of the slabs Charleton Heston carried down from the mountain. Click on Listen next to opening panel round ("The Supreme Court and Cecil B. DeMille; A dress code with some freedom.") Anyways, i know i'm walking a thin line with this post. It really has little to do with religion and i have no strong opinion on the presence of the ten commandments at courthouses. Hopefully, any discussions don't go the wrong way.

It's not so much a debate over religion (ie which one is right) as it is a dabate over who far the separation of church and state should be applied. Should non-secular artwork be displayed on government grounds? Yes/no/only some? How can a person decide when and where such is appropriate?

IMHO we should live in a purely scientific republic, allthough the concept of cloning, slavery (biological robots derived from hummans), immortality and the such at first seems odd and a bit scary i'm convienced that the ends justifies the means. i have no problem with breaking any sort of "ethic" to better my own life.

as for religion and countries, i'm convienced that infact religion is the source of all evil. let's take a very religios country, iran, note the amount of "evil thier" now lets compare this with a very aethist country such as sweeden. see the difference, take anycomparision you wish you'll see that a religious country is not a prosporous country.

Brilliant! I suppose you're all in favor of stuff like this as well, then.

Or we could take stalin Russia...

Iran is not a single uniform country like a western country, it's a collection of several powerful religous and secular rulers controlling overlapping territories. Some places are very modern and others are very medieval. It's unfair to judge the entire country based on only one side of the coin.
