It's come time to upgrade my memory due to slow hd paging when gaming. I want to upgrade from my current 512 to 1GB. I'm a bit confused though. Let me link my motherboard for reference: http://usa.asus.com/products/mb/socketa/a7v8x-x/overview.htm This is the last upgrade for this computer so I'm trying to work within a budget here. Currently I'm running two 256MB DDR-266 chips in it. From the link above:
Quote:
DDR400 (PC3200), the latest and fastest DDR memory standard, supports bandwidth up to 3.2GB/s to provide enhanced system performance. (Note: PC3200 Max. to 2 banks only; PC2700 Max. to 4 banks only)
However, the board only has 3 banks. Are they just talking about memory in general (as in, on any board these are the limits)? All I really want to know is if I purchase a 512MB DDR-266, will it sit alongside my two 256 chips? |256|256|512| ...or does DDR require the same in each slot?

Should be Ok.
