I need a favor from anyone running a multi-core CPU on their computer, which right now would pretty much be a Pentium 4 with Hyperthreading Technology. A Win32 platform is assumed. Please download this program and run it from a command prompt window: http://www.staticengine.com/hidden/CPUInfoTest.exe Then tell me whether Hyperthreading was reported as Yes, how many Logical Cores it claimed you had, and how many CPUs it claimed you had. Thanks.

Looks right.
Chess is played by three people. Two people play the game; the third provides moral support for the pawns. The object of the game is to kill your opponent by flinging captured pieces at his head. Since the only piece that can be killed is a pawn, the two armies agree to meet in a pawn-infested area (or even a pawn shop) and kill as many pawns as possible in the crossfire. If the game goes on for an hour, one player may legally attempt to gouge out the other

I have a 2.8Ghz Pentium 4 HT.

Hmm, shouldn't it report Number of CPUs as 1 (since those are physical CPUs) and the number of Cores as 2? Let me look into my math...

Okay, I updated it slightly. I belive that on a single proc Hyperthreading system it should report 1 CPU, and 2 Logical Cores. It's possible I had a bit of assembly wrong.

Anyway, please try it again, and thanks, I really appreciate your help.

Now you definatly have some math wrong :-)

I think you were probably right with the original version. On my system dxdiag says:

Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 2.80GHz (2 CPUs)

Weird. Okay, let me look at this for a sec, and thanks again.

So you have a two physical hyperthreading CPUs in your box?

I only have 37 logical cores. I guess you win.

dxdiag says the exact same thing for me as for me as for Alan Kemp.

Every program/operating system I've used says it's two CPUs, so I say just go with the flow.

No, I have a single P4 HT. In effects its two processors on a single chip, which is why dxdiag/windows reports it as two processors.

Right, I was reading wrong. For some reason, I read Pentium 4 as 4 CPUs... Sorry, I'm in assembly world here, a place I haven't been for a while.

Okay, I found some unset variables, and found the wrong JUMP opcode that I was using. Updated it one more time.

I think I understand the issue now. Thanks again everyone.

3DNOW: NOT AVAILABLE <<< hmmmmm, 3dnowex avaliable but not 3dnow
3DNOWEX: AVAILABLE

Yeah, I get the same thing on my Athlon XP. I guess it's just how they coded the chips.

Correct! However, I do not know if I have 51 Logical Cores - I think it is just 2, according to CPUZ.

Weird. Okay, I'll wait until I have access to a Hyperthreading CPU to test this out myself. At least it's detecting the Hyperthreading correctly.

Thanks everyone!
