Upcoming MMORPGs

My roommate and I are thinking about getting into a new MMORPG, this summer. He's playing WoW (religiously) right now as his first MMORPG. I'm a long time player of MMORPGs (played WoW for about a month, enjoyed it thoroughly) and MUDs (you gotta love a good MUD). He recently asked me if I'd like to start up a new character with him during the summer. I said sure, but also proposed the idea of checking out a new game (part of the fun is exploring the world). He's up for it, as long as we find something worth dropping WoW over. So that's where you guys come in. Does anyone know of any good upcoming MMORPGs or a site that offers previews by genre? I searched gamespot a bit, but couldn't really find a section for future games, nor one specifically dedicated to MMORPGs. I was hoping someone here might know of something. Thanks guys!

I think Guild Wars will be the next serious attempt at an MMORPG. But I couldn't really tell you since they aren't letting just anyone into their beta weekend events anymore >:( I played it last year in the world preview event, but I hear it's gotten a LOT better.

It's free, too!

MMORPG.com has a good, long list of MMORPGs, both 2D and 3D, free and costly, etc. It also labels whether or not they are in Beta, Development, Released, etc.

Their 3D is so much better, it outperforms Unreal 3 engine by 500%, it's FPS is off the scale and you can do ANYTHING in the world.

Thanks for everyones' replies.

Tell me more about Guild Wars...I'm intrigued. I read you can do things like create bridges and burn down forests? That sounds like fun. Who's in the alpha/beta or just knows alot about it?

Also, it's free now....will it be free when it launches? By free of course I mean is there a monthly fee?

Guild Wars has no monthly fee, and it won't have one ever. The only payments you make is purchasing the game and it's expansion (expansions will never be required to advance, according to the developers).

Matrix Online just came out like yesterday or so. The reviews I've seen are mostly negative though.

The next big MMORPG that people are waiting for is Vanguard. It will be a while for that though. The core team that is making it are much of the same people that made EQ1 before Sony took it over.
