Original Post
Hey everyone. I started to rough draft that design document article I promised, but soon I realized there was so much more I wanted to talk about, like why you should write a design doc in the first place and how you start doing it (with an idea). So instead I''m starting a 4 part series called "You Got Game!"
Part 1 will be about coming up with the original concept and incubating the idea into something you can actually put down on paper.
Part 2 will be about inking out your game idea with sketches and notes and start to bring it closer to complete visualization.
Part 3 will be the design doc part - how to write it, how to lay it out, etc.
Part 4 will be about how to use the document itself during development so that everyone in the team stays on track with the original concept.
I''m thinking this will be a hell of a lot better than just a wimpy article on how to write a design doc. Plus, I''m writing a design doc myself right now and still learning a few things, so I want to wait till I''m done with that, which should be in time for the third installment. I plan to release each part every two weeks or so. Hope you like em
