The following statements are expressed in the context of MY HUMBLE OPINION: I'm having a slight problem. I can't decide whether to design my Action-RPG for an isometric viewport, a perspective viewport, or some mix of the two. An isometric viewport will automatically resonate with gamers who have played games such as Diablo II, and would set a certain feel to the game. That I like. However, more diverse control systems can be devised in a perspective viewport, and it's harder to give a game a large amount of flexibility in an isometric view. For instance, a game with the combat diversity of Devil May Cry wouldn't have the same splendor when confined to an isometric view. A perspective viewport can give you greater control over camera movement, greater control and combat diversity, and can give the player a more global view of the world. For instance, in a game like Diablo II, you never see the sky in game. This isn't really a problem, but it's hard to create a cohesive game world in which the player never sees the sky. Perspective viewports can create a more realistic gameplay experience, while isometric viewports create a more stylized gameplay experience, at least in my opinion. Now, how would I be able to fit the combat diversity and camera control of Devil May Cry alongside the isometric stylings and RPG feel of the viewport used in a game like Diablo II? Since this is the isometric forum, I don't neccesarily expect answers about the perspective view, it's just that I'm leaning towards an isometric viewport and there's no 'Perspective Games' forum :)
