Folks, I am newbie to game programming. I am wondering what you guys think would be the best API for a begginer, OpenGL or DirectX 8. I am looking for an API with lots of resources on the web to help me. I found Nehe''s site on OpenGL excellent! Is there any good site for DirectX (espically D3D). So what would you folks recommend ... OpenGL or DirectX 8? Thanks, MikeH

There is more OpenGL-related documentation out there than you can shake a stick at. This makes all the difference - especially if you''re a beginner.

I've used DirectX but never OpenGL, so I can't recommend one over the other. Microsoft has great (IMO) documentation for DirectX here. Actually that link takes you to the Direct3D section of DirectX, which is really what you should be comparing to OpenGL. You'll most likely end up using other aspects of DirectX like DInput & DSound, regardless of what 3D API you choose.
