Good modelling programs?

Original Post
look at the 2d and 3d programs sticky on this board, it lists programs by price, so you can get ones for free or $50 or $100 etc.
Perhaps GMax would be useful?
As mentioned, Blender is open source. It seems to have a bunch of functionality, but it is extremely counter-intuitive at first. I believe it used to be a commercial product, so it's pretty good. I'd check it out.
Good luck!

You could try Caligari's GameSpace. There is a free version called GameSpace lite that has a poly limit, but if you want to buy it, it is only about 250 USD. It's a great program that I've used to do all my game's graphics, and it supports dozens of different game engine formats, and has a level editor, UV editor, etc. One tool to do almost all major game-modelling tasks.
Blender is another good one, and it is totally free. I do hate it's interface though - it seems more of a tech tool than an art tool to me.
3DMax is my favorite high-end program, as it has a huge community behind it and plugins to solve just about every problem. It will be some major cash though.

If you want to try Blender, my sig below contains my tutorial for users who are completely new to Blender and want to make game models.
3dsMax is worth every penny, but if you want to spend the extra time (instead of extra cash ^^) to learn anything else, then I'd recommend Blender. Milkshape is not quite as powerful as either, but is a very nice -smaller- modelling package. And, it's only $25. XD
