I just wanted to get some feed back on an early screen shot of my games interface. Early Information Now Online The screen display is obviously unfinshed, there will be some time controls, and alerts added to the top the screen for one thing later on. Mainly I'm looking for feedback on the layout, color scheme, and design. I've also noticed that on at least one other computer it doesn't display the same as it does on mine, the buttons are brigther then normal and the background is not appears to be solid black. If anyone knows why and how to fix this issue please let me know.

I don't want to be an ass, because my interface really sucks. But I think maybe you should go a different route other than green + orange. Those colors don't seem to mix well to me. Also, and still trying to not be an ass; intelligence.

The layout is really nice. There seems to be a lot of open space, which is great. On the bottom part (skills are listed, I think), you should make the text right aligned, with the skill points left aligned.

I wanted an organic look and feel for the interface since the game deals of genetic engineering. I thought orange and green achived this. I know they are not colors normally seen together that one of the reason I've asked for feedback. :-)

Thanks for pointing that out I hadn't noticed, I'll fix it. You not being an ass if there are mistakes point them out thats why I asked for feedback.

That might work. To be honest I'm not sure I like the numbers or not. I might change it to a text description of their ability level instead of numerical the numerical level. So there would be values ranging from Untrained to Nobel Prize winner instead of 0 - 10. I'd rather have no numerical on the character profile since I feel they would look ugly.

I agree, there is a lot of white space, maybe a bit too much?
I don't mean that it has to be cluttered, but you could fill some of it out by making the text slightly bigger, possibly bolder.

As for the colours, they're not too bad, just need a little bit of ballancing.

Only thing I would re-consider is the icons at the bottom. They look a bit out of place, looking like buttons. Have you considered using flat icons, rather than shaded "Geometry"? Better yet, make them simple, single-colour line drawings (Orange or white) to fit in with the overall colour scheme.

One last thought: if you are looking for an "organic" feel, try changing some of the straight lines to some kind of curves.

But overall, very nice, clean, and straight forward

I really dig the plot sketch, reminds me of System Shock.

The interface color scheme is fine, I found it appealing. However, I would find a better way to draw the buttons; I assume you're using OpenGL or D3D, because the bitmaps are squashed. I would either make them all square, or avoid stretching/squashing when rendering the button tris.

Great work!

I think so as well, there is a large hole below the stats and to the right of the skills that is crying out to be filled, I'm just not sure what to put there at present.

I tried that out.

But I can't decided if I like it or not. It makes the interface look very empty with icons instead of buttons, it might work if the icons where attached to something though.

As for the the single-color line drawings I tried something like that before in an earlier idea.

But I just can't seem to get it work for the color scheme in this game. No matter what I try the icons look either flat or extruded, I can't seem to get the contrast and blending right.

Thanks, its good to know I'm on the right track.

Glad you liked it, always good to get some postive feedback.

hmmm, I'm using them openGL and rendering them as squares so if they look squashed its either because the textures are a diffrent size then rendered buttons (64x64 texture as 60x48 rendered) or the squashed look comes from tga loader class.

I like the idea of having actual buttons at the bottom, but I'll agree that they need some work. Have you tried introducing some grays or silvers into the design? You could use it for a few borders, and incorporate it into the bottom buttons, just so they don't blend in so much.

//edit: I should add that I really do like the rest of it.
