Forums: http://www.solidsteel.nl/users/wxwidgets/viewforum.php?f=28 I was able to create a GUI front end to a virtual file system in a very short period of time (4 hours) and most of that time was spent learning how wx windows and the new IDE worked. Its about time someone decided to extend dev c++ but its written in bloody pascal when everyone uses c. Not to mention that you need the huge borland IDE and several third party libaries to compile the source. This is the best happen to dev c++ in a long while. I give it 6.5/10 for a great job for a noncomercial project. A Good Free Small alternative to visual studio capable of creating crossplatform guis visually.

Introducing wx dev c++.

Introducing wx dev c++. I recently came across an extension to dev c++ that allows you to easily create GUI’s. I was amazed by how simple it was to learn. In my opinion something like this was a long time overdue. You uninstall dev c++ (no need to delete the dev packs) then you install wx dev c++ in the same directory. Make sure you enable class browsing (only the local class browser is necessary cause the global is slow and a memory hog). The wxWidgets manual is a must for programing with it as well USA mirror. http://easynews.dl.sourceforge.net/sourceforge/wxdsgn/wx-devcpp-6.7beta_setup.exe

Its downfalls:
It has the bugs of dev c++ plus its own bugs.
You have to learn wxWidgets (hopefully this wont take too long)
Dev C++ does not have a linux port (it was discontinued)
With any other type of form system you still have to manually resize things and such.
But its getting better all the time.

Other than visual studio, most people here use dev c++ (from what I have observerd).
So this is great news for alot of people. I never heard of ResEd you have a link?

Go there. The author maintains that forum post. ResEd is a visual resource editor that makes gui components for your app, and spits them out in a .rc file to include in you project.
It took me less than five minute last night to make the guis for 2 programs. :)

I'm going to have to check both of these things out now... looks good!
Actually, it aint an extension, but a fork, and a very good one, been tracking it for a while

Well, as for resedit, .rc files hardly compare favorably to a real OO framework like wxWidgets.
And besides, wxWidgets has its own resource format (for the layouts), in XML
If dev-c++ were written in c++ there would probally be alot more forks and extensions.

Youre right. The bad thing -only one IMHO- about devcpp is that its written in delphi. But in the other hand, one of the developers in the official forum said that was interested in making a plugin system, which would be awesome if ever gets done
A plugin system would be nice indeed
I am really suprised by how little attention this is geting considering how usefull it is as well as how popular dev-c++ is.
I think this is great! I attempted to to use wxwidgets (when it was wxwindows; what 1 or 2 years ago) and it thoroughly kicked my ass; the opengl widget at the time wasn't official or something.
Problem is I'm not doing anything with a c++ gui right now but its in my bookmarks ;) .
