Assume that we don't have a formula f(x) for the function f. However, we do know that f(1) = 4 and that the firstderivatives graph looks like the pic on the link: http://www.tove.istheshit.net How do I use a linear approximation to get a plausible approximate value to f(1.25)?

You cannot derive a reasonable approximation with just one sample point.
You can, however, find the function and the parameters for the f'(x) from the graph (take a close look at it). Then you find the integral of F(x) of f'(x) and
approximate that.

Hmm, but how do I get the equation for the tangent in the point (1,4)?

Nevermind, I figured it out.
