Hi, This may sound stupid but I was wondering what is the origin of word "OK". I have only heard that it states for "orl korrect" but I am not sure :-). I would like to know opinions from native english speakers or from people who really know it's origin. Thanks ;-)

You know, I can't really say... Wikipedia says this but that doesnt really clarify anything much.

It's just slang for "okay" as far as I know. I don't think it's an acronym or anything...

Seems like there are many opinions for OK's etymology.
You guys are ever a great help and thanks to you I can learn so many new things :-D

If it is not an acronym than why is it sometimes written "O.K."?

Keep in mind that just because it's generally accepted doesn't mean it should be done at all. I think in this case the term has become so ingrained into the language that you'd never be questioned on it's use though.

Thanks ;-).

I would like to know one more thing. Why is "OK" sometimes written as "O.K."? Are there any differences between them (I think not) or is it only a question of user's taste?

Don't quote me on this, as I'm not sure, but I assume that "O.K." is incorrect. The period used in this fashion is to indicate abbreviation (as in i.e., e.g., etc.), so I would assume it shouldn't be used as such with "OK".
