I have a 56k modem, but I always end up getting 45k. If I catch a speed tsunami, I can go up to 150k for a few minutes (in which case I load every page of as many sites as I can ).

I can usually download at least at 3.5k/sec on my 28.8 if I'm not messing w/ anything else that uses the bandwith.

56k, but i usually get around 28k or 19k which SUCKS! cuz the neighbors next door seem to want to water the telephone conduits cuz it''s on their side. it pisses me off. it''s so bad, that the phone line is all staticky and you can hear music on the lines. it''s damn-near shorted. can''t get a decent carrier signal.

I''ve got a 56k lying on the shelf; I''m connected to my college via 10M Ethernet card. Very fast.

At home I''ve got a 56k modem, which always connects at 49333 bps. I don''t know what kind of connection I have at school, but it is fast I can get about 200KB/s when there are not many people at the network. Otherwise is will drop to about 15KB/s, which is still much faster than my connection @ home.

64kbit/s ISDN, maximum download/upload rate 7.6kbyte/s. (I downloaded DX 8 SDK at pretty constant 7.4kb/s) When I do bidirectional ICQ file transfer (like MP3s) that makes 15.2kb/s

Unfortnuately, I pay €0.01 per minute which really sucks.

There''s nothing cheaper/faster available, though.

there IS an unmetered service available but maximum transfer of 500MB per month kinda sucks... I use that in one WEEK

Ohhhhh!!! The units of these modem speeds just became apparent. Your browser measures in bytes/sec and you connect at a certain bits/sec (say like my connection of 28.8). So I should be seeing a max of 4 to 5 KBytes per second. Makes a lot more sense now.

Well then I am going to have to put off complaining to my university. Well, ... maybe I can convince them to offer DSL service....
