I have Visual C++ v6.0 because it came on a disc with one of the books I bought, but DirectX 9 doesn't support 6.0 at all and I don't know how/where to get the newer edition anywhere. Can I upgrade for free, and if not, where would I get a newer edition and for how much? Thanks, -]MM[- UnL1573d

AFAIK there's no free upgrade. You could buy vs.net standard edition for about $100 or download the VC++ 2005 express beta.

Do you know what features the beta doesn't have? Thanks.

As far as I know, the beta is time sensitive, you won't be able to use it for a long time
