I''ve noticed a lot of complaints about DX8 in this forum. Has any of you actually taken a look at the SDK? I think its a good idea to actually read a little before complaining. Anyway, DX8 is much easier than DX7. DirectGraphics initialization takes 6 lines of code! That''s much better than DX7. DX8''s structure is just a little different than DX7, but conversion isn''t that hard. I like DX8''s structure. Anyhoo, if you don''t like DX8, then don''t use it. Simple as that. There''s DX7-3 and even OpenGL. --------------------------- Tell your friends. Tell your family. Tell your...don''t tell your family. The GDTalker

Dont you know? They have had it for all of 1 whole day and they already know EXACTLY how EVERYTHING works!

Of course they are right!

I mean, don''t you know that just because it is different that it can''t possible any good at all?

Thanks,

Sometimes I think I know what I really don''t, but then again usually I do know what I don''t, but just don''t realize it, maybe its because I am so young, but then again it could be because I am insane.

I guess I can see what you''re talking about, but that''s not my point. I''m talking about simple conversions. My point is that the current SDK isn''t much harder than the last.

I see strange topics like "DirectX8 Sucks!" or "DirectX is stupid" and it''s irritating because it''s only a few days old.

Newbies should be reading books instead of learning an API. Once they know something, then we will accept complaints!

i'll admit i havent thoroughly read the DX8 SDK but perhaps anyone reading this can clarify something for me.

Question: if i want to use ddraw for a 2d game do i have to use DX7? (aside from the obvious earlier versions )? From what i gather i do but im not positive of this. thanks

btw: i have no complaints

thanks

Yeah you can do it. It requires a little knowledge of the old Direct3D though.

Anyway, to clarify my statement, I''d just like to point out that because something is different, it doesn''t mean it''s stupid.
