Compiler Linker Error

Well, I thought I'd be cool and install MSVC++ 2005. But then I got (and corrected) the libci.lib error. And then I got this: LINK : fatal error LNK1104: cannot open file 'odbc32.lib' A quick search of the hard-drive reveals that file (and its brother, odbccp32.lib) don't exist on my hard drive. They both fall under "Additional Dependancies", and removing them both gives me lots of unresolved external links for anything from I have installed the Platform SDK. What's going on?

The code you're trying to compile needs the ODBC libraries to build properly. Reinstall Visual Studio and select the options for the ODBC development libraries (not sure exactly what these are called in VS2005).

Installing the MDAC didn't help. Searching computer didn't reveal the new files, either. I don't get it - it worked find under MSVC++ 6.0.

In fact, what is the ODBC anyway? It sounds like database stuff I don't use anyway.

What is ODBC?

If you get unresolved external link errors, here's what to do.

1) Start with the first function it says is unresolved.
2) Look up the function in the SDK documentation
3) Scroll to the bottom of the page
4) Note what library it says you need to link with
5) Add the library to the list of libraries to link with.
6) Recompile to run the linker.
7) If there are unresolved external functions go back to 1

If the unresolved externals aren't windows functions then they'll be in some other library you're using. If they're your own functions then you need to include the .cpp or .h file with the implementation.
