Since BattleAngel is a very similar design, I would like to know whether anyone sense anything different between the implementation of emotion in BattleAngel and in the design with Cosmic Engine. Is there an objective difference in terms of:
Motivation to engage in the gameplay related to emotion
which design motivate you more to engage with the NPCs?
Integration between gameplay and emotion
- which design makes you more naturally engage with the emotions of the NPCs?
- which design gives more suspense of disbelief while you are playing the game?
- which design is more intertwined between gameplay and emotion?
Presentation of the power and influence of emotion
- which game makes you feel that the topics about emotion in the game is really about emotion, not just some arbitrary rules the designer provided?
Induction of emotional response in the player
- which game do you think you will be more emotional about?
These are gut questions. The following are more hardcore question if you want to answer:
Motivation*
- For the design that is weaker in motivation, how would you improve it?
- For the design that is stronger in motivation, what is it that makes it stronger?
Integration*
- Similarly, what are the elements that made a design more integrated, what are the flaws that made it less integrated?
Presentation*
- What are the factors that made a presentation appear unrealistic?
- What can you do to improve the design?
(*Note that regardless whether it is realistic or not, both designs have the same amount of gameplay, it is not the case where the more realistic design has less game in it)
- How important is Presentation of emotion to you when the subject of gameplay is about emotion?
Induction*
- Why is it that one design is more emotional than the other design?
- Based on what you imagined the two designs will be like, what would you do to eqaulize the emotional influence of the designs?
- How important is being affected emotionally (or feeling empathetic to the situations)?
- How important is it for the design to induce an emotional response if the subject of the design is about emotion?
