Cone3D has some decent SDL tutorials.

yes ive heard of that place but it seemed not up to date, oh well its a start

I would second the Cone3D tutorials. I just used the sprite one the other day and had my own sprite moving around on the screen within a half an hour. The tutorials are also good if you're using Dev-C++.
