What do you guys (and gals) think will happen to the entire Windows game programming community in the future? We''ve got the XBox and PS2 coming out, so my best guess is that less and less people will be using a Windows PC for gaming purposes. Of course, I could be very wrong. If I''m right, however, then it''s a very sad thought... Thank you, Alexander McAndrew mcanda@pcgamesforyou.com http://www.pcgamesforyou.com

You''re right! I''ll have to move to linux

Well, I''d already have done if UT worked with my V5 in Linux and if I knew more C++.

In other words: no, I think the PC will still play a major role in gaming.

Let the flaming begin!

Microsoft, ergo Windows, has no future. They made the mistake of pissing me off, and no one ever gets away with that. They will be crushed.

After careful deliberation, I have come to the conclusion that Nazrix is not cool. I am sorry for any inconvienience my previous mistake may have caused. We now return you to the original programming

And people think my fear of Godfree is unfounded.

I fucking hate people so into console games that they forget that the PC exists. People like that are so ignorant. they dont realizet thet a console is just a SNAPSHOT of what a PC can do at the time.a kid once said to me "Who plays games with a fucking keyboard?!" Needless to say I nearly killed him...

Well, you''re forgetting one thing. The XBox API was designed such that there would be only a minimum of effort required to get the same software to run on Windows boxes. So at least in the forseeable near future, there will still be new games created for PCs.

one of my friends made a very good argument, that PC games are slower than console games because it has to go through the extra step of communicating through the OS. and with Windows as an unreliable OS, it''s prone to cause trouble for games.

but me, i''m impartial to such debates as of yet, because i''m not too sure of the console scene lately. i have to admit it looks really good, but still, i suppose you can judge the two by the users.

you have to admit that there are a large amount of games on the PC that involve patience and thought whereas the number of games of these types is fairly lacking on console systems. this is not to say that they don''t exist, but how often do you find flight sims with gazillion controls on consoles, or how can they possibly fit all the commands for some RTS games on a controller? well, i guess they''re coming out with better controllers now, but hey, you know what i mean. i may continue later, but this is the perspective that i''m coming from.

The day that businessmen can do their office work on a console, is the day that the PC is dead for games. On that day, though, the console will effectively be a PC
