For those of you that don't know what MST3K is (AKA the losers), it's a TV show from the 90's. For each episode, they find a really, really bad movie from the past (seems like 1950's all the way through the 80's) and make fun of it. In front of the movie, you see the silhouettes of a row of movie theater seats, with 3 guys sitting there making fun of the movie. (Actually 1 guy and his 2 robot friends). Lately my friends and I have been watching a lot of old MST3K episodes. If you are a hardcore fan, list some of your favorite episodes. Mine:
  1. Prince of Space
  2. Space Mutiny
  3. Puma Man
  4. Cave Dwellers
  5. Jack Frost
  6. The Final Sacrifice
  7. The Incredible Melting Man
We've seen many, many more, but I'm too lazy to list those, not to mention the temporary stress of deciding which ones are better than others. I'm downloading Hercules Against the Moon Men right now. I can't wait!

I used to love this show.

On top of the actual movie, there's also some "acting" on a spaceship or something. My favorite one was when they gave a word, then gave what that word was an acronym for, then were about to say what that acronym was an acronym for. It got quite long =).

I don't know any titles of the episodes, but I used to watch that show whenever I had the chance. My favorite episode was with the movie where they kill that alien and he falls and says "Oh I landed on my keys!"... it's tough to appreciate if you haven't seen it.

Ah my head is flooding with memories now. I forgot all about the show. Is there a dvd set of some sort? That's a must-buy for me now.

Search "The Mystery Science Theater 3000 Collection"

I think it's up to Vol. 7 by now.

"Operation Double 007" starring Sean Connery's brother Neil as a Bond type with all of the arrogance and chauvinism, but none of the charm to pull it off. If the concept of this movie sounds at all amusing to you, I guarantee that you will not be disappointed by their riffing on this one.

Hell yes! Space Mutiny!

What is rather disturbing is that one of the local networks actualy played that. With out Tom, Crow, or Mike.

I freakin love that show!

Riding With Death, Overdrawn at the Memory Bank, Night of the Blood Beast, The Undead, Boggy Creek II, Prince of Space, Agent for H.A.R.M., Danger!! Death Ray, Devil Fish, The Sidehackers, The Creeping Terror, Soultaker, Werewolf, Santa Claus (521), Deathstalker and the Warriors from Hell, 12 to the Moon, Final Justice, The Deadly Bees and Track of the Moon Beast.

Those were above the rest anyway.

Oh hell yes those deserve to be up there. My favourite part of Space Mutiny is shortly before Big Meat Chunk is about to run down those few stairs and take out the cripple. I find it hilarious that the cripple manages to get five unknown guys in five shots (complete with railing kills!!) and then can't shoot for shit when BMC comes along.

Deathstalker ("Smelled your food!"), Earth vs The Spider, the Day The Earth Stood Still, Mitchell....man, theres too many good ones. THat show was the culmination of television, and nothing will ever compare.

I've seen it exactly twice, and each time they were looking at the same movie, This Island Earth. Very funny though. I keep hoping I'll see it on TV but it never seems to be on when I'm around...

I think the reason you saw it twice is because that was MST3K The Movie. It's still absolutely hilarious though.

That, and SCIFI doesn't show reruns.

I saw the movie, and found it hilarious. The bits on the space station itself were painful to watch, though. I kept wanting them to return to This Island Earth. I didn't know it was a TV-series back then, although the title "MST3K - The Movie" tipped me off.

Since I loved the movie, I downloaded a lot of episodes, and was thoroughly disappointed. It's not even remotely as amusing, which struck me as odd. There's just nothing about it that even makes me chuckle. Maybe I've only seen bad episodes?

Santa Claus Defeats The Martians!

My favourite for the name if nothing else. Although I think their comments during Hobgoblins was probably their best performance.

Manos: "The Hands of Fate" was most excellent. When referenced throughout the movie the mst3k guys would never shorten the name or remove the quotation marks.

Don't forget "Attack of The The Mole People".. if only for the title.

Yet you seem to have mixed up the quotes on "Manos" The Hands of Fate.

By the way, the space station segments are rarely that funny, Superpig. Whenever I've downloaded episodes I skip the first ten minutes of pain and go straight to the movie (I occasionally watch the middle segment though).

you got my hopes up... I thought they were finally releasing full-season DVDs

That will not happen until some very smart person buys the rights to all of the movies and all of the episodes... this may never happen... anyway:

1. Laser Blast <-- my absolute favorite
2. The Magical Voyage of Sinbad
3. Mitchell*
4. Pod People*

* -> episodes you can buy from not-ebay, released by Rhino

Many episodes are better than the movie. Then again some episodes aren't that great and as you said the 'host segments' are of varying quality. The early seasons 1-3 are not that great overall, then the show got on the right track. There were some line-up changes too, Mike replaced Joel as the main guy half-way into season five and Bill replaced Trace as Crow starting from season eight (Kevin replaced Josh as Servo very early on). They all have their own style, some prefer one over the other.

If you haven't checked out Riding with Death then you probably should. The crew liked it too, there's a nice relaxed atmosphere going on through the whole movie. Space Mutiny is another one. Read some reviews at http://tom-servo.home.mindspring.com/reviews.html
