Team name: Trillaem Games, LLC Project name: Sanctus Legacy Online Brief description: Sanctus Legacy Online is a 3d fantasy MMORPG established in late 2003. Our core team has proven to be dedicated, hardworking, and talented. We are taking our goal seriously, working diligently from milestone to milestone, but maintain the relaxed atmosphere that makes the hobbyist community so great. (More info) Target aim: Free beta period, free trial version. If we make it far along, a cheap P2P subscription'd be nice, but nobody on the team is here to get rich quick. Ultimately, we just want to get this done, and get it done right. (More info) Compensation: Developers' contracts instate a low minimum percentage of potential returns, as well as accreditation. Future revisions to the contract will reflect higher percentage of returns for each individual. (More info) Technology: We're using OGRE rendering engine and Raknet networking engine. More information about our library componentry available to anyone wanting to know. OGRE's native model formats are the .mesh, .skeleton, and .material: we've been able to export all three from both Blender and 3DS. So far, we've found OGRE's artistic pipeline to be smooth and simple: much more versatile and easier to get along with than most of the other engines we've looked into. Our audio library will, more likely than not, be OpenAL- although we still have room and time to make further discussion and decisions. We prefer to use the .ogg format for audio, as its compression is very powerful and it requires no costly license. Talent needed: The summer has brought some changes to our team, and we've had to say goodbye to two or three talented artists who we are yet to truly replace. These artistic positions include 3d modeling, unwrapping, rigging, and animation. Additionally, we are always looking for anyone with a knack for graphic arts or texturing.

Additionally, we are taking applications for audio artists. Our lead audio artist, Jason Koohi, is still with the team, but we have been searching for a coworker for him for quite some time, and one of our most recent applicants has bowed out, due to personal time constraints. We'd like to find someone with a knack not only for music, but for audio. Obviously, we allow and encourage any musical contributions you may be willing to add (and we especially encourage cojoint work between you and Jason), but our primary need is not in music, but in sound engineering for:
  • Voiceovers
  • Creature sounds
  • Ambient and environmental sounds
  • Interface ("gui") sounds
Team structure: The core team consists of about 15 members, covering bases in all primary areas of development. Additionally, we usually have a volunteer group ranging from 5 to 15 additional members at any given time. For more complete information about what I do and what the other team members do, please visit the "Team Member Profiles" section of our website. Website: http://www.sanctuslegacy.com/ Current website is functional and contains some useful information, but another is in the process of being created that will contain more end-user related material, such as design information, lore, bestiaries, and the other "cool stuff" that end users like to see. For now, if you're interested in knowing more about the game's story, environment, or look/style, check out the development forums, and shoot a PM to TheArtifex. Also, keep an eye on this thread for leaks and renders, and feel free to request any specific information you'd like to see. I'm all ears, and ready to answer whatever questions you've got. Our in-game look is not anime: despite the somewhat anime-influenced nature of our concept artists. Rather, in-game look and feel will be much more towards the realistic end of the stylization spectrum- we often like to compare the look we're aiming for to Fable or some of the more recent Final Fantasy games.

Hey mate, i just came here to tell you that your game looks promising. And would also like to ask you: Are you using Raknet because of a reason? Me and a team are going to work on an MMORPG too, out of an already made engine (Game that's just completely moddable), and we need something good to use, is Raknet worth it? Or is there something better for MMORPGs?
Im tired of the Rating System (As alot of you are), please rate me down.

While I can't say from direct interface experience, my lead network coder's said a lot of good stuff about Raknet. From what I grasp, it's set up very nicely and has some powerful features: plenty more than sufficient to build the networking side of an MMO off of, if you've got the know-how and prowess to play with it.

Also, Raknet's entirely free to use: certain restrictions pending, of course. We shipped out $2.5k to contract the Raknet guys for immediate support, code verification, and that sort of jazz, but it was entirely optional.

From what I know of it, Raknet's a great choice for a networking engine.

And now, some leaks:

Additionally, here are one or two of our latest soundtrack pieces. We host our music on MusicV2, and they've been a bit nasty about external links. Please try to right-click and choose "Save As..." in Internet Explorer. In Firefox, you may need to copy the URL into a new tab.

How the f did you manage to create that music? It sounds like it's been performed by a live orchestra. Was it? For my MMORPG, I'm hoping to be able to hire John Williams and the London Symphonial Orchestra, but sadly, I'm afraid I won't have enough money:\ BTW nice leaks:)

I'm sure Jason will be happy to hear that his music is appreciated. Yes, he is quite talented, isn't he.

Are you saying that one (1) guy created that music? If so, Jason (I presume you mean TheArtifex), is a genious:D

Great art, music, design.. well everything!

Good luck on your project Justin, I'd lend a hand if you were in need of programmers, but alas you are not. This project will go far, I'm supprised not more people are falling over themselves for these positions.

Ah no. Jason is not TheArtifex. He is just another great member of the team ;)

Actually, necreia, if you were serious...

I'll shoot you a PM. ;)

And yes, 99.999% of the music for this game is done by one man: Jason Koohi. I've dabbled a bit in music composition, but I've got plenty of other things to do, for this project.

The guy's a frickin' legend, and one of my personal favorite members on the team. Not that I pick favorites or anything. <_<

But yeah. Jason's been amazing to watch. When he first joined, almost two years ago, now, I thought he was amazing. But hearing some of his most recent stuff...

It has been an absolute honor working with Jason on this project: not only because of his insane talent with music and audio, but because he's also very bright and influential on the design side of things: not to mention that he's just fun to be around.

But I won't pimp out Jason any more- no need to tempt anyone with forbidden fruit. (Although I believe he does commisions, eh, Jason?)

Ah, many thanks to those applicants we've had so far, including a handful of people I hadn't even begun to imagine would be interested in the project. Additionally, many thanks to those of you who have offered encouragement and support, despite the inability to join the team. We thrive on your positive feedback.

To further entice any 3d artists who may still be on the fence, here's one last batch of concept art, before I move on to my other recruiting grounds:

Question: Is your decision to go with Raknet 100% final? If not, you might want to give ReplicaNet (www.replicanet.com) a look-over. It's what my team is using for our persistent world development system and we've had nothing but amazing ease of use and power from it (plus top notch support!)

FYI - No, I am not in any way affiliated with Replica Systems; I just really like their product :)

*nods*

We've put a good bit of development and $2.5k into Raknet, so methinks the decision is quite final. I'll definitely keep Replica in mind for future projects, though!

Hey, I might not mind creating a few 3D character models for you. Catch me on AIM :)

Hey Artifex,

Glad to see you guys are sticking it out. Good job mate. Been a few months since I chatted to you on MSN but one thing I brought up then that I was a little confused about and it might help you out to clarify here for other folks is the anime look of your current concept art.

I dislike the whole anime look personally but I completely appreciate that it has a very huge community following. (And please don't take this personally you guys are doing great work and I am not second guessing it.) But a lot of 3D modellers might find it hard to actually change from a fantasy type setting to anime and that may be holding back some of them from getting in touch with you.

Now what you told me way back when was that despite the genre of your concept art, the ingame look was not intended to be anime. Does that still hold true? Either way I'm sure it will be great but I just thought that you might want to clarify that so as to get the intrest of as many modellers as possible.

Good luck =)

Mark

PS: I want to talk to you down the road and see how you made out with that layered mesh code and if you ever got it into the engine.

Ah, yes- thank you very much for bringing that up, Slyxsith. Our in-game look is not anime: despite the somewhat anime-influenced nature of our concept artists. Rather, in-game look and feel will be much more towards the realistic end of the stylization spectrum- we often like to compare the look we're aiming for to Fable or some of the more recent Final Fantasy games.

As for the character rendering plan- while "possible", it wasn't nearly as efficient as it needed to be: that's a whole lot of textures to be swapping in and out.

Now, we're tackling another character rendering plan that's a little more to-the-point.

It looks great guys, really wish I were in on this. But, if you need any beta testers I would be glad to help out once it reaches that stage.

Keep up the good work.
