Just wondering, does anyone else have problems with siblings poking around in all of their files and reading everything you don''t put some sort of lock on? Or am I just really unlucky?

I don''t have siblings. Which means I don''t have anyone to glare at so they do chores for me. Or beat up.

So I pretty much can store anything on my hard drive (no, I don''t store that stuff you''re thinking of, pouya ).

Fortunately I live by myself. But sometimes I get concerned about Philana poking around my files. Also... My friends have mastered the ''Find - *.jpg'' on ''My Computer'' when they are intoxicated. Not that there is anything there now . I got rid of that stuff a while ago... Or did I

Hehe, I have my own laptop. But my disk crashed . Boo hoo. I used not to have that problem since I only told my siblings as much as they needed to know. I was the keeper of all computer knowledge. Hahaha

Please state the nature of the debugging emergency.

I don''t really have any problems. My parents don''t really give a crap what I see... But my friends are always curious in searches... When they are drunk. Seeing as they are doing the same IT Degree that I am, it is a little hard to suppress information. Around my parents house though, I am the guru. My mum needed instructions on how to turn the computer on (for an example) and my sister only really knows about ICQ

I don''t have that problem, but still, to be sure, I pack all my private stuff (images (no, not of genitalia), e-mails and chat logs) in password-protected ZIP files.

And I have used backups since my old computer''s hard drive crashed and I almost lost everything on it. Luckily, it still worked for some time while I retrieved the important stuff.

Hehe, seeing as my computer is my own, I don''t need to worry about prying. I just need a screen saver password and a login password. Then, only someone with a clue can log in

i used to share a computer wit my mom...
she don´t know too much about computers so she didn´t mess with my stuff that was there. the biggest problem was when i was using it and she wanted to talk with her icq friends...

I don''t have much to hide...
I regularly backup my programming stuff (which I don''t mind anybody having a look at as long as they don''t modify it) and the ICQ history is the only thing I don''t want others to read. So I used the NTFS encryption thingy to encrypt the ICQ directory. You need to be logged in as an admin to view it and I haven''t told anybody my passwords.

Apart from not being able to find the "secret" information nobody dares going near my machine (it seems like everybody in the house apart from me thinks it''s evil )

If you''re into security, use a secure OS (like Win2K or Linux) and a safe file system (NTFS, ext2). I must say I even prefer NTFS over ext2 because it supports nifty stuff like encrypting single files or directories and the stuff with the permissions is much more advanced.

Sorry if I''ve offended our Linux gurus here but I think that local multiuser security is better in Win2K (not in WinNT4!)
