What the heck do I have?

I have somekind of a respiratory problem-thingy. I've been staying in for three days now because I have a coughing severly (and I mean severely) and my head's swollen full of snot and stuff that just keeps on producing. People have suggested that I might have pneumonia because of the severeness of my coughing, but some reading up on the subject indicates that pneumonia is induced by inhaling something or by somekind of an infection. Well, this is my pathology: I developed a fever about a week ago, a really harsh fever around 40C or so, probably because it was well over 30C in the shade outside and I didn't get much cover, so I overheated. To cool myself down I used an ice-cold bottle of vodka, first to cool off my head, then rested it on my chest (vertically on my respiratory tract) for 5-10 minutes. Then, as I started to feel more normal, I just moved it next to myself while I tried to read, so it was near my right ab or the belly or something like that. Finally I'd cooled myself down and felt almost okay. Until the next day when I started to develop a small fever and a cough. A cold followed shortly after and I've been sneezing like a madman ever since. I've had a cold before and this isn't like a normal cold: my throat is swollen, yes, but when I cough the sound actually comes from somewhere near my chest (it's like a small thunder down there). It's become more "open" today after I drank around 3 litres of hot tea, but I'm still confused as to what I have. Otherwise I feel almost okay - except for a small vertigo. So small that it doesn't almost bother me at all. Can a cold be like this? Because I've never had it like this - especially in the middle of the summer. What's more important - as it's not been that warm outside over the last few days and the wind has been quite considerable - should I take on that all-perilous journey to the doctor's (which isn't at all that close) just to hear him tell me to go back home and drink lots of tea, or should I just stay in and drink lots of tea and potentially get better five days sooner? Because if these symptoms do not constitute a more major health risk (such as pneumonia), I'd rather stay in and drink enough tea to kill a small cattle.

I am not a doctor, but my advice is to go see your doctor\village shamen. Of course, I could try to diagnose you if you like...

Sounds like mad cow disease, or possibly asian bird flu.

Although, I gather that some SARS or brain cancer patients suffer similar symptoms.

Grr... I was going to post that! It would've been the first time I'd responded with a comic, too.

Damn - wrong forum. Again. I was looking for professional medical advice. I should've sent an email to one of those tabloids that have columns like "letters from girls".

PS - yes, post the comic.

< puts on reading glasses >

edit - haha!

Sorry Crispy, but I have no clue. So without further ado, I offer a song:

UFO - "Doctor Doctor"

Doctor doctor, please
Oh, the mess I’m in
Doctor doctor, please,
Oh the mess I’m in
She walked up to me
And really stole my heart
And then she started
To take my body apart

*livin’, lovin’, I’m on the run
Far away from you
Livin’, lovin’, I’m on the run
So far away from you

Doctor doctor, please
Oh, I’m goin’ fast
Doctor doctor, please,
Oh, I’m goin’ fast
It’s only just a moment,
She’s turnin’ paranoid
That’s not a situation for a nervous boy

Doctor doctor, please
Oh, the mess I’m in
Doctor doctor, please,
Oh, the mess I’m in
But you look so angry
As I crawled across your floor
She’s got the strain,
And I can’t take any more

40C is a serious fever. You should have gone straight to the emergency room! For the Americans among us (including me) thats 104F!

cancer.

No, I had the same exact symptoms... it was pneumonia.

mmnn...could just be a very nasty cold UNLESS you have chest pains, breathlessness and yellow-green mucus..which usually means a chest infection.

Maybe try steam inhalation to clear the airways and drink plenty of non-alchoholic fluids.

You would know if you had Pneumonia as it can really make you feel ill.

Anyhoo, I suggest (me being NO DOCTOR!!) if it doesn't start easing after 48hrs I'd definitely go see the doctor for some miracle jungle-juice.

Gee, this sounds like an excellent question for your, wait, what's the word I'm looking for? It's what you call a trained medical professional who is capable of diagnosing illness and injuries. Oh! It is right on the tip of my tounge. What is that word? They carry the stethoscope and hit your knee some times. You know, they look down your throat and stuff.

Dentist! No, no, that's not it. I think it starts with a "D" though. Oh what is it? Draptor? No, now I'm thinking of the dinosaur. Or maybe it starts with "P". Proctor? Hmm, close, but I don't think that's it. It sounds like it though...wait...wait! I've got it!

GO SEE A DOCTOR!!!

If your temperature reaches 40.5°C, or it lasts for more than two or three days, you should see a doctor. Your body normally won't let it exceed 41.1°C, and if it reaches 42.0°C you risk brain damage.
Chess is played by three people. Two people play the game; the third provides moral support for the pawns. The object of the game is to kill your opponent by flinging captured pieces at his head. Since the only piece that can be killed is a pawn, the two armies agree to meet in a pawn-infested area (or even a pawn shop) and kill as many pawns as possible in the crossfire. If the game goes on for an hour, one player may legally attempt to gouge out the other

A man went to his doctor and said, "Doctor! Doctor! I have this terrible problem, I can't remember anything!" The doctor looked at him and said, "How long have you had this problem." The man said: "What problem?"

A guy goes to his doctor for the same symptoms, and the doctor tell him "This doesn't look good at all. I hate to break it to you son, but you're going to die..." The guy, of course is completely shocked, and begins to panic: "Doc, you've got to tell me how much longer I have to live!" The doctor looks him over and replies "Well, I'd say probably around 32". The guy's like 'wtf' and asks the doctor "32? 32 What? Until I'm 32?!" He then hears the doctor whispering "15..14..13.."

OH TEH NOES!!!111~
