Creepiest/shockiest/simply the best horror shock moment in a movie

I'm going to have to go with Resident Evil - the one where Michelle Rodriguez says "poor bastard" at the woman in the tank in the first half of the movie (before they've shut the computer down) and as soon as she walks out of the frame, the camera zooms in, the music dissipates and suddenly the woman's eyes open an her hand is very abruptly on the glass. While I am not a big fan of Anderson's work in general, I think he did a well above average job with Resident Evil (even though I enjoyed Romero's original script - I believe I happened to read the final draft - a lot more than Anderson's, which made it into principal photography). Pulling off a shocker after basically spelling it out to the viewer that "a shocker is coming - get ready - aight, any time now" is somewhat of an art and there's actually several of those moments in Resident Evil. Still, the one I described above, is, in my opinion, easily the best. Your turn.

The moment in Ringu where the girl crawls out of the television screen. Eeeeyaaaagh.

(I hear the corresponding scene in the American remake was nowhere near as affecting. Unsurprising.)

I'm actually scared thinking about it. But maybe it's because I've never been able to stand to *watch* the whole movie.

I found the end of Sphere to be pretty good. I find that the sudden shock impacts tend to fall flat with me, and the unseen enemy thing is a little tired now. What I find tends to creep me out and send my mind spinning, is when they throw in some kind of massive, abrupt change in direction, where suddenly everything is different, and everything you thought you knew about what was going on, not even that, the very nature of the universe this story is unfolding in, is thrown into question. I don't mean revelations like "OMG, there are two killers", I mean moments like in Identity with John Cusack, where the guy runs away from the Motel, takes a step over the hill, and finds himself looking at the motel again.

The Sixth Sense (The Ending).
Identity - Numerous parts throughout the movie; this is one of my most loved movies of all time.
Session 9 - The whole movie really managed to have a very creepy atmosphere throughout.

The thing which shocked me the most in a movie was in 28 Days Later, near the start where he is wandering around London, the music is building, the place is deserted and you are just waiting for something to happen, he walks past a car and the fricken car alarm goes off [wow] I swear everyone in the cinema jumpped a few feet in the air [grin]

I enjoyed The Blair Witch Project, so I'm going to go with that. The creepiest things in movies are not the goriest scenes, but the ones that leaves -just- enough to your imagination, which can then run wild with whatever the hell it thinks it saw. Hence, the moment when they actually start hearing children, and the tent begins to move violently takes the cake for me. You never get to see whatever the hell is making the tent rock, and that's the best way to do it: had they inserted some CG/stop motion/guy in a suit/light effect monster, it wouldn't nearly have been as scary as it is now.

My favorites were in F13 part 1 where Jason pulls Alice under the lake and in saw where we find out that the killer was actually in the room the whole time.

The part in Saving Private Ryan where the German soldier slowly puts the knife into the American soldiers chest while he is asking him not to and the German is making a shhhh'ing sound. Eeeeeerie...freaks me out thinking about it.

The Shining - Part near the end with the guy in the bear suit...I dunno if any scene in a movie has freaked me out more.

That movie was probably one of the scaries movies ive ever seen. But I havnt met anyone else who liked it, and I do ask. Maybe its because I spent/spend a lot of time out in the woods and nature far from everything, and it can get pretty creepy, so I think it must bring back old memories or something.

The first half hour of dawn of the dead. specifically, everything up to the morning after when she wakes up, everything else after that isn't horror at all.

specifically in all of that, two things. the first, the guy in the ambulance not being dead. Haha, i saw it coming but it still made me jump. After that, the opening credits with the song "when the man comes around" by johnny cash. it gave me chills for the whole length of the sequence, the song still bothers me to listen to it now.
