This isn''t an accusation but what''s up with the code for this tutorial existing at NeHe''s and at this site: http://www.dev-gallery.com/programming/opengl/colision/collision.html Just seems kind of wierd to me. Especially how NeHe claims ownership of the code after it get submitted to his site. Dodger_

Cause it says the same person wrote the code and submitted it to NeHe ;p

Not to be RUDE - but if you would have read the News on The NeHe Productions Webpage - you would have seen that Jeff did not take credit for the code nor does he ever when someone else sends him code for the site

Second bit of BIG NEWS Lesson 31 is now online and features something you have all been asking for... Collision Detection! Huge thanks to Dimitrios Christopoulos for writing the code, and an excellent tutorial! The demo is extremely incredible and features balls that bounce off walls, eachother and objects within the scene. Objects are not only flat, but cylindrical, and the balls are affected by gravity. Very cool!

Just sticking up for my man

Try reading the disclaimer some time. The part where it says:

"All Tutorial submissions to NeHe Productions become property of NeHe Productions. If you do not agree with this policy, there is no point in sending in tutorials of your own."

certainly says that he owns the code after someone submits it...

Hey Dodger_,

You will find that a lot of websites like this claim ownership of any submission''s of code or images etc. that an individual wishes to contribute. This is for legal purpose''s and is also the reason that disclaimer''s such as the one you mentioned are posted.

Eventhough the submission becomes the property of the website, company, magazine (whatever) the person who submitted the origional work is most alway''s given due credit (and thank''s). Jeff does state that Dimitrios Christopoulos submitted this material.

It''s something to seriously consider before making a submission such as this.

Oh, I understand that part. It was more of a question of the problem with it existing in two places. Who owns and what rights are given get more murky. If I download it from NeHe it''s NeHe''s code, but if I download it from the other link I gave, who''s is it??

The disclaimer is there for 2 reasons:

1. To prevent other sites from stealing the content off my site without asking.

2. So that I can distribute submitted code (unmodified) after the author has submitted it.

It is not saying that I OWN it... "Becomes property of" means it''s now part of NeHe Productions.

The author retains full ownership. I have no interest in taking someones hard work. I just don''t want problems when distributing it. Basically covering my own ass.

All authors are given full credit many times in the tutorials, in the news, etc.

There''s nothing to worry about. Even though people have sent code in, and agreed with the disclaimer, I still ask the authors for permission just to make sure everyones happy.
