Forum software eats journal links

Hi all, I've not seen this mentioned before, so I dunno if it's a known issue... but the links to individual journal entries gets eaten up by the forum software. In this thread I wanted to include links to two of my specific journal entries, but the forum software eats up the link at the end - I can't even post it as plain text because it gets eaten up (see my eventual solution here). I'm not 100% sure, but I'll take a guess that the characters being used are escape sequences - such that it's effectively mangling it's own URL [headshake] Firstly, is this actually a bug/feature? If it's not already known, is there any chance of getting it fixed? Cheers, Jack

I managed to link to a specific journal entry just fine here, but that was using the comment page for the specific entry. Perhaps you could do that in the meantime as a work-around?

Odd that it doesn't like the regular links.

Thanks for that - will make a note to use that in the future [smile]

It seems to be just the one that are in the "link" at the bottom-right of each post that is broken. Maybe that needs to be changed to the same URL as you mentioned for the work around...?

You could just use TinyURL in the meantime as a cheap workaround...

I'm not sure if this is a bug with the forum software or with the way journal links are created. The &#</tt> codes are converted by browsers into the characters they represent, and it appears the characters are being converted in the <tt><a></tt> tag by the <i>browser</i>, not the forum software.

If I "Open link as new tab" or just copy-n-paste it into the address bar of my browser it's absolutely fine.<br/><br/>But that is interesting about it possibly being the browser. Will have a go in msie when I get a chance...<br/><br/>Cheers,<br/>Jack

When you have an ampersand in a URL, you still need to escape it as & even if it's a quoted property of an HTML tag such as 'a href' or 'img src'

Example:
http://www.gamedev.net/community/forums/mod/journal/journal.asp?jn=273409 & # 2175119
becomes
This

when you paste the link just delete the & and it works fine.
