It's 4am here and I can't sleep, so I decided to lurk on some forums that I regularly visit. After reading a thread on racial hate on another forum I've been reminded that all people are stupid. As Tommy Lee Jones says in Men in Black, "a person is smart, but people are stupid pannicky creatures". There's so much stupidity in the world right now. So, this thread is dedicated to the stupidest things that you have ever been told or have been witness to. Things like the Iraq War and religeon don't count, even though they are Stupidity Generators (note that I'm not saying either of them are "wrong", I'm just saying that a lot of stupidity comes out of both of them). Otherwise anything goes, like stupid laws, stupid events, stupid people... and pictures are even better of course. My quick list: * "Chavs". They're pretty damn stupid. * The UK election. You have no idea how many people said, "Oh, I was going to vote Party XYZ, but they'll never win, so I voted Labour." Of course they won't win if every idiot says that! * That stupid frog. DIE! * Spam email telling me that I can enlarge my breasts. They're quite big enough, thank you. * Forum Trolls. * And sometimes, Microsoft. Anyone who rafts and thinks that rafting=kayaking=WW canoeing. Also, anyone who asks if i'm going rafting. Raft guides who think they own the river.

People who tell me not to fix their computer because I might break it...

Uh...genius if it's broken NOW then isn't it better to attempt to fix it and run the risk of breaking it anyways? If you break it then it can't be used anymore than if you left it broken. (Note: I just got told off for "playing with the computer", by which he meant fixing an issue with our computer taking forever to load any webpages (cough replacing ethernet card cough), so this is more of a rant than anything)

The best part is when they have to remind everyone how right they were after the fact. Well, thanks for spreading your cynicism, asshole-- it's good to know that self-righteousness helps you sleep at night while the world is going to hell.

Sorry - I don't quite understand. I'm not saying that voting for any particular party is necessarily wrong or right: I'm just pointing out that voting is about what you want in a government, not voting for a party what you think will win. It defeats the entire point of voting.

In fact, it could be argued that a small part of the current world affairs is partly due to the outcome of the UK election: Tony Blair wants British troops in Iraq. I voted for Charles Kennedy, who wants to pull the troops out. So in a way, I voted for a party that I believed would make a difference to the crappy state of the world, not the party that I thought would win.

If it's any consolation I can't sleep at night, which I mentioned in my OP. :)

Sorry if I caused offense, but I think that you may have misunderstood my intention. :)

sounds like the concern of the people you mention isnt entirely out of place.

replacing an ethernet card because your pages take long to load? no offence, but that does make me concerned about you knowing what youre doing aswell.

The card hasn't worked right in any computer I've tried. Switching back to the intergrated ethernet card has solved the problem. My idea worked, and everything is fine.

Also, I should note that these same people ask me to help them with every single thing they have an issue with. From forwarding e-mail to understanding a firewall.

Also, "taking long to load" is bad wording. More like, it stalls for up to ten minutes before loading a page when asking it to connect to something.

ok, sounds like a driver issue then, but who gives a damn, as long as it works :)

I thought it was a driver issue too, which is why I took it out (coupled with the fact I have another computer running Linux that needs a ethernet card, and the card runs fine under Linux).
Meh, enough about my rant; it works great now and haven't had a problem with it.

If you know you're in the minority and there's more than 2 parties, then voting for the 'lesser of two evils' might not be a bad strategy. I think the stupidity is more likely with the voting system (IMHO, it's borked) and not with the people voting.
Chess is played by three people. Two people play the game; the third provides moral support for the pawns. The object of the game is to kill your opponent by flinging captured pieces at his head. Since the only piece that can be killed is a pawn, the two armies agree to meet in a pawn-infested area (or even a pawn shop) and kill as many pawns as possible in the crossfire. If the game goes on for an hour, one player may legally attempt to gouge out the other

seems kind of "borked" to me. if your defaulting party is a "lesser of two evils" can't voting for your party eventually influence them by costing them elections (assuming there is more than 10 supporters of your party).
being conservative, this really doesn't affect me, but when i see Nader come in on the far left and hug a few trees, it always reminds me of the damage Perot did to Bush.
IMHO democracy is about your voice, not your election day victory. Otherwise we should all move to N Korea, where our party will always win.

As your leader, I encourage you from time to time, and always in a respectful manner, to question my logic. If you're unconvinced that a particular plan of action I've decided is the wisest, tell me so, but allow me to convince you and I promise you right here and now, no subject will ever be taboo. Except, of course, the subject that was just under discussion. The price you pay for bringing up either my Chinese or American heritage as a negative is - I collect your f***ing head.

I agree, our whole political system is totally biased and just broken. There is, unfortunately, not much anyone can do about it... *sigh*
