I've been asked to write an essay on "how suitable the Linux 2.6 kernel is for embedded systems". One thing I've been struggling to pin down, is the new way they are handling device drivers. Briefly, does anyone know what they've changed about driver handling and how that might effect smaller computer systems? Thanx Daed.

New way of handling device drivers as opposed to what previous version? 2.5? The Linux kernel likes to place device drivers (especially specific ones) out of the immediate kernel and into modules. But this is nothing new, just gets a little more organized each version.

It's actually a hell of alot more in depth than that but i havnt got time to go into it.
