http://java.sys-con.com/read/45250.htm I'm sad to say that I don't understand many of the points in this article, but for those that do, is this article true? I had assumed that Java was slower than C++. After all, if it isn't, what is the point in using it for developing games? Could someone please clarify this issue for me? Any replies are really appreciated!

I'm too used to C++ to have an unbiased opinion...

Some of the C++ tests would not compile. "I've never been very good at decoding GCC's error messages," he admits, "so if I couldn't fix a test with a trivial modification, I didn't include it in my benchmarks."

While I haven't read the benchmark code, if Mr. Lea can't even "decode" the GCC's error messages I seriously doubt that the benchmark C++ code is good C++ code.

On another note, it doesn't matter if a Java VM can run a program faster than an equicalent C++ program-- both languages are just tools to accomplish a goal.

From what I see it's just a test they did. You could get different results at different times with different data, so I wouldn't hold anything to it. You can do the tests on your own machines at home with different compilers. You should just use a language that best suits your needs.

Is "better" meaningful in this regard?

Nope. Schluß.
